Tommy Z is a humorist who grew up in the bowels of New Jersey, parented by an eccentric Polish father and a neurotic Italian mother. With that kind of upbringing, what else could this man possibly be other than a humorist? Tom is also a well-known feature writer for Cigar Magazine and other national publications.

I’m Feeling Independent, Thank You
Freedom is a beautiful thing. The psycho jihad mother fuggers over in their sandpits despise that we are free – it infuriates them because they can’t even conceive the concept. While the Iraq war sucks and we have to get the hell out of that stinkin’ arid hole, I appreciate those men and women in uniform with all my heart. I am so grateful every time I see a serviceman and I always say thank you.

I know we’re all bitching about the cost gas, but its $8, $10, an $15 a gallon in some other countries. They don’t have things like supermarkets in many of these little nations, where you can pick out anything you want for your family to eat – and as much as you want. There’s no open job market, two-week vacations, Thanksgiving with loved ones, or the ability to send your kid to a good school. No Joey Chestnut snorkeling dozens of Nathan’s tubesteaks while defending his title against the Land of the Rising Sun. This is why those rag-tag rebels in white wigs fought ‘til the death some 200 years ago. They wanted freedom so bad that they defied the odds and chose to die rather than live under the grotesque oppression of a monarch. They didn’t want to live in a class system any longer that gave them absolutely NO chance of becoming more than what they were born into.

Can you imagine if our guys didn’t win? Can you imagine the life you’d have, now? No 500 channels on television, or football on Sundays, or barbecuing burgers and wolfing potato salad on the Fourth of July. No icy cold beers on the patio with the buddies, accompanied by tobacco products from far away tropical lands. And can you imagine no JR Zman Blog to read, where a Polish immigrant with stains in the most obscure places can say whatever the hell he wants – and people adore him? How truly foul!

Worst of all, there would be no PLANET ZMAN! Oh my God in Heaven, have moicy! You wouldn’t be able to click the url www.planetzman.com and read more great things about the world of the Man’s Man, brought to you by the creator of the JR/Zman Blog and featurer writer for Cigar Magazine! You wouldn’t be able to read stories by Lew Rothman (it’s coming) and a plethora of psycho ranting by Jersey’s freshest. Oh the horror of it all!

And can you imagine a world that didn’t offer a Zman Cigar Special? Say Whaaaaaat?! Well, fortunately for you we are free to order from the internet as we please and this is one time I command you to have your very own priceless Mastercard moment and claim these stogies in the name of freedom!.And the Zman Cigar Special is just nuts and I can tell you they are NOT making a dime on this! Today is dedicated to our troops around the world; away from our family and friends.

Have a safe 4th and enjoy the day...

Re: I’m Feeling Independent, Thank You
Had a great day. The fare off the evening was Tomato Mozzarella Sausages
on the grill washed down with 40 oz of good old Ballantine Ale. Nothing
for dessert, but came up with a new leaf, courtesy of the only cigar
emporium in my town - two 5 inch Montesino Maduro Robustos (50 ring) Finished the second one 35 minutes ago, just when the birds started
their morning chatter as the bats were darting to and fro overhead.

Another great Fourth of July for this old timer. When you're still around
for your 74th one, it is indeed a special time.

Re: I’m Feeling Independent, Thank You
What a great 4th. Got to play golf with my middle son, had some ribs and chicken on the smoker, quaffed some Sam Adams Honey Porter, topped it off by sharing coffee and some Bolivar EMSs (last weekend's JR weekend warrior special) with the aforementioned offspring and also my oldest son. May sound phony, but I am sincere when I tell you that I closed my evening with a prayer thanking God for the USA, for those who have gone before and for the ability to share days like these with my family.

Special kudos to you Tommy and, for me, this new found "family" of guys who think much like me. By all that is written here, it shows that there are American Men that still hold many of the old ways close and are not afraid to stand up when others kowtow.

On a different note to you Z, I have to say "Get thee behind me Satan." This weekend's special is a maduro sampler of quality cigars, and then you show up with your special. Both are in the cart and ready for checkout. Come Tues. when these arriive, the wife is gonna say "More CIGARS?, Where are you getting all these?"

My only reply will be to say "Honey, there is this guy in Jersey that I know...."

Re: I’m Feeling Independent, Thank You
Hey Zman,

Sorry I've been MIA. Thursday I played golf, drank a lot of scotch, and smoked cigars. Good day.

Friday, we went to Austin to spend a couple of days with my daughter and our grandpuppy. We met her new roommate, and went to a 4th of July concert by the Austin Syymphony, and a 25 minute fireworks show down by Ladybird Johnson Lake (formerly Town Lake) We had a picnic and drank several cold brews. Another Great day.

Saturday we met her new boyfriend. He's a teacher, and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. We approve wholeheartedly. We had a big brunch, took a nap, went to a neat little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant, complete with fantastic margaritas and a strolling mariachi band. Then we wandered around several bars on 6th Street and listened to a few bands. Did I mention that Logan was a great guy?

Today, we went and had a huge pancake breakfast, hung around for a while, and then drove the 2 1/2 hours back to Houston.

Hope everyone had an awesome holiday. I know we did.

I don't know about you guys, but I am bbq'd and potato saladed out! Great blog Zman and great show on XM! You have a new fan! And F the Haters...you are a breath of fresh air. Well probably not from what I've read here, actually. LOL!
