We Are Brothers in Smoke
Well, I've posted my Monday blog a day earlier on Sunday because if you read Friday’s edition, you’d know that I’m basking in Santiago in the Dominican Republic as we speak (Another fancy drink with an umbrella in it my little Domincana honey.) Something tells me I’m having a pretty damned good time and smoking cigars like a demon, too. The posts will be short and sweet this week as I’m crammed for time and whatnot.
On Saturday my Cigar Club in Fairfield, New Jersey, The Metropolitan Cigar Society had a nice little open house to attract new Brothers of the Leaf for membership. Our founders did things right and we have this awesome bastion for guys who like to enjoy good company, good times, and good smokes. Please check out the website because you’re guaranteed to be impressed.

Martinez Cigars of New York showed up and gave out samples of their brand new blend that is going to hit the market – All Nicaraguan with a Sumatran wrapper. Mmm mmm, damn, I’m telling you these guys are a hot little company. Jesus Martinez is one hell of a hard working guy who is doing his best to put this awesome boutique company on the map. The good people from Altadis were there with some great new stuff including my fave, the Rome Y Julieta Habana Reserve. That is one hell of a gorgeous looking and smoking cigar – medium to full bodied, Nicaraguan wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and a Nicaraguan /Honduran filler. Also, Rosario Cigars, another boutique company from the Bronx New York had their rollers making up some outstanding smokes as well. This was a heck of a nice shindig and the BOTL’s were out in full force.
It seems with the smoking laws, the taxes, and the smoke-Nazis from hell, people who love cigars are going to have to find a way to beat the system that is trying to eradicate our right to smoke. They don’t care that they are trampling on our rights because they’re on a mission and they won’t stop until the world is rid of tobacco. One way to fight back is to try to start a club like the guys did in Jersey – it’s private, we don’t sell tobacco, and therefore no one can bother us. You don’t have to get fancy or spend a million bucks, but you do need to do things right. I’d say to email the administrators at the Metro Club (Dan M. or Bob L.) and ask the questions you’d like answers to. We’re all in this together and starting your own cigar hangout may be just one way we can beat these wretched bastards who want to take our cigars away. It was a great day at the club and I really wanted to share it with people like you who I know would appreciate it.

Gotta go my brothers, there’s a chick with a carafe of wine and peeled grapes waiting to make my acquaintance. I-chee-wowa.
Have a great day all, I know I will,
Tommy Z.

Re: We Are Brothers in Smoke
As the smoke Nazis tighten their grip, we may be forced to start a private club, but right now, we still have some places we can go to smoke, such as tobacco shops and bars outside the city limits(which is where I am).
Fiend, you're just jealous because the Polack got to go on a neat trip, and you didn't. At least Zman didn't screw us and say, you guys, I'm out of here for a week.
Once he puts up some kind of BS here, we typically pick it up and run with it anyway. All he does after the original post is throw around a couple of wisecracks. We do enough of that ourselves that we can get along well enough without that for a week.
So fraggin' WAKE UP!!!

Re: We Are Brothers in Smoke
Garfiend, take some caffine ya weenie.
Arrived in the DR 6:30 last night. Private jets can spoil a person. We were all pretty exhausted, had dinnerwhile watching the Mets on the ESPN Spanish network, hit the casino or 2 hours and smoked a few nice puros.
Meeting with Daniel Nunez today for a little factory tour and hopefully a cigar or ten.
I lov you all. No, really I do.

Zman, do you find that the toughest part of going on a busines trip is that 2 weeks after you get back you find yourself trying to explain to your wife why she has to take Penicillin shots for your kidney problem?

Re: We Are Brothers in Smoke
Garfiend is an example of what happens when a sleep deprived individual switches to caffeine free coffee. They get sleepy and honery. (No, that's not a misspelling of horny, but that could be another of Fiends problems.)

When your down there you need to ask about the Don Pepin Garcia
phenomena. Would be interested to see what the industry is saying.

Re: We Are Brothers in Smoke
It's almost 2pm. Did a complete tour of several General facilities. Incredibly fascinating. Lunch with Daniel Nunez and the crew. Now I'm off to a plantation. Hot as hell but I'm gathering a lot of fresh samples right off the roller's tables.
It's rough, but somebody has to make the supreme sacrifice in the name of cigardom.
Again, I love you all. No, really.

Re: We Are Brothers in Smoke
I don't think garfiends problem has to do with caffeine, I think it has to do with laxatives

Re: We Are Brothers in Smoke
I don't need no STEEEENKING "private club"! I got my very own "private club", with a membership of exactly ONE - me. I got the A/C and the fridge fully stocked with exactly one brand, and the HDTV and the DVD player, both hooked up to a stereo, and my new genuine La-Z-Boy leather recliner... And a cooler stocked with my favorite brands to boot! Not to mention a ventilation system, so I don't choke on my fumes... LOL
Yup - fuggem. Let the Smoke Nazis try to stop me from smoking in my Herf Room (which used to be the 3rd stall of my former 3-car garage). I highly recommend this approach. All it took was a wall built down the middle of the garage. It cost me about $1,000 for materials when all was said and done, including the A/C unit, plus about $300 in cigar bribes for labor, and probably 80 hours of my time. But once I got me that room, I was in heaven, baby.
BTW, ZMan - I hate you. Probably just about as much as you hate me when your cigar club is closed and it's sub-zero outside and I'm in my Herf Room smokin' a fat stogie!
